Electroneum Completes Its Transition to Web3 with Closure of Legacy Wallet Services

Electroneum Retires Its Hosted Wallet Platform

Electroneum has officially shut down its legacy wallet platform, including the ETN app, my.electroneum.com and customer support for those services. The move marks a major milestone in the project’s transition from a traditional account-based platform to a Web3 ecosystem built around self-custody.

Users who have backed up their private keys can continue accessing their ETN through compatible wallets such as MetaMask and Zypto.

What This Means for ETN Users

Instead of logging into an Electroneum account, users now manage their own wallets using private keys. This is the standard approach across most Web3 networks, where users maintain full control over their digital assets without relying on a central wallet provider.

The change also means Electroneum no longer operates a hosted wallet service, placing greater emphasis on personal responsibility for wallet security and backups.

Don’t Forget About Older Paper Wallets

Electroneum has also reminded users that paper wallets created before 3 March 2024 must be migrated to the current EVM-compatible blockchain before the legacy chain is retired at the end of 2026. Any ETN left on the old network after that point could become inaccessible.

A Significant Step Towards Web3

Closing its hosted wallet infrastructure represents one of Electroneum’s biggest changes since launch. Rather than relying on company-managed accounts, ETN now fits more closely with the wider Web3 ecosystem, where users interact directly with the blockchain through self-custody wallets.

For long-term holders, the key takeaway is simple: if you control your private keys, you control your ETN.
