How to Retrieve Your Electroneum Private Key and Import It into MetaMask
Electroneum has introduced a new feature that allows users to download their private keys from the legacy wallet system at my.electroneum.com.
This is an important step as the platform moves away from its old wallet infrastructure. By exporting your private key, you gain full ownership and control of your funds and can use modern Web3 wallets like MetaMask.
In this guide, we’ll walk through the full process step by step.
Step 1: Log in to Your Electroneum Wallet
Go to my.electroneum.com and log in with your email, password, and PIN as usual.
Once logged in, you should see a new section called Private Key Download.
Step 2: Request Your Private Key
Click the private key download option and follow the instructions carefully.
You will need to send a confirmation email request, copy the verification PIN from your email, and confirm that you are the wallet owner.
Electroneum has added several security steps here, which is a good thing. Take a moment to read the instructions before continuing.
Step 3: Download and Open the PDF
After the confirmation is complete, you will be able to download a PDF containing your wallet details.
The PDF is password protected. The password is made up of your PIN followed directly by your wallet password, with no spaces.
Inside the PDF, you will find:
- Your wallet address
- Your private key
Important: Your private key gives full access to your funds. Never share it with anyone.
Step 4: Install MetaMask
Go to the official MetaMask website at metamask.io and install the browser extension.
A smart habit is to search for MetaMask on Google and click the official result rather than typing the address manually, since that helps avoid phishing sites.
Once installed, create a new wallet in MetaMask and store your recovery phrase safely offline.
Step 5: Add the Electroneum Network
MetaMask uses Ethereum by default, so you need to add Electroneum as a custom network.
One easy way to do this is through Chainlist. Search for Electroneum and make sure the Chain ID is 52014. Then connect and approve it in MetaMask.
Once this is done, MetaMask will switch to the Electroneum network.
Step 6: Import Your Electroneum Wallet
Now it is time to import your existing Electroneum wallet.
This step can be a little confusing at first. You do not import it using a seed phrase. Instead, you import it as an account using the private key from the PDF.
In MetaMask:
- Open the wallet menu
- Choose to add or import an account
- Select Import account
- Paste your private key
- Confirm the import
Your Electroneum wallet should now appear inside MetaMask.
Step 7: Check Your Balance
Once the wallet has been imported and you are connected to the Electroneum network, you should be able to see your ETN balance and any supported tokens in that wallet.
If everything looks correct, you are done.
Security Tips
- Never share your private key
- Do not store sensitive wallet data in screenshots if you can avoid it
- Write down important backup information and store it securely
- Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication where possible
Final Thoughts
Even if this process looks technical at first, it is actually quite simple once you go through it step by step.
Most importantly, downloading your private key gives you direct control over your Electroneum wallet in a more modern Web3 environment.
